Photographs of the community of Turnor Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, taken during the 2008-2009 school year.

About thirteen or more years after the community cut down the trees and cleared the land the politicians and dignitaries finally arrived with their shiny shovels. It was time for a ground breaking ceremony to begin construction of a new school to replace the old building I was teaching in. The world was in a recession. The federal government was taking action to save the national economy by dusting off some ready to build blueprints that could get the construction industry working again. It was June and the end of the school year. The air was warm and full of swarms of blackflies. An occasional gust of wind would disperse the pesky insects by blowing sand in our eyes. It was time for me to leave the community as my teacherage residence was needed to house a construction worker.
